Our one-week Chess Tournament Camp is packed with strategy, excitement, and competition! Explore multiple tournament formats, test new strategies, and grow as confident competitors — all in a fun, supportive environment. All playing levels welcome! Registration is with HRCA.
HRCA financial aid is not available for camp.
Campers must be able to play through a complete game of chess — no chess training is provided during this camp. Campers must have completed 2nd grade.
Learn and play daily tournaments in a variety of styles, including:
- Swiss
- Quad / Round Robin
- Match
- Arena
- Four-Board Team
- Ladder,
- Standard
- Blitz
- Bughouse
- Freestyle (Chess 960 / Fischer Random)
There will be a tournament orientation course for new tournament players to learn rules and procedures, how to take notation, and use chess clocks. All campers will participate in daily tournaments (paired by ability).
Camp runs 9 a.m-4 p.m daily. Drop off no earlier than 8:30 am. Fees for late pickup after 4:15 pm.
Non-refundable $50 deposit (applied toward tuition) will be charged at the time of enrollment. Remaining camp fee of $225 will be processed via autopay on July 27th.
Meets at King’s Grant Presbyterian, Virginia Beach. Students should pack lunch, snack and reusable water bottle daily.

Beginner Camps at Cape Henry
Beginner Camps are at Cape Henry Collegiate in Virginia Beach. These camps are full-day, and run Monday-Friday. This camp is ideal for beginning chess players who have no experience or very little chess experience. Learn the basics with HRCA coaches! Registration is with Cape Henry Collegiate. HRCA financial aid is not available for camp.
Times: 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (Full-Day)
Tuition: $380 per week (Full-Day | Lunch Included)

Intermediate Camps at Cape Henry
Intermediate Camps will also be at Cape Henry Collegiate. These camps are half-day, and run Monday-Friday. Intermediate camps have different topics each session, and are ideal for experienced chess players who are looking to improve their skills and want to learn new ones! Registration is with Cape Henry Collegiate. HRCA financial aid is not available for camp.
Times: 9:00 a.m.-noon (Half-Day Mornings) | 12:30-3:30 p.m. (Half-Day Afternoons)
Tuition: $240 per week (Half-Day | Lunch Not Included)
